Archi

by Pierre Paulin

In 1955, Pierre Paulin designed an armchair without armrests (CM 194) and an armchair with armrests (CM 195) using upholstery technology from the automotive sector and, for the first time, using a Serolatex elastic fabric for the upholstery, for which Thonet had exclusivity. Pierre Paulin came up with the idea of dressing an armchair like a woman's body after visiting a swimming costume factory in northern France.

To further enhance comfort, Pierre Paulin designed an additional version, an armchair with side headrests (CM 194 HD and CM 195 HD), which Ligne Roset reedited in 2009 under the name Archi, honouring the timeless design of this armchair and the perfection of its comfortable curves, in which the user's body rests perfectly.

A shimmering, aerodynamic modernity emanates from the whole. And for good reason: inspiration from the automotive sector of the time is omnipresent. Whether it's upholstery technology on a metal structure, the use of elastic suspensions or the special way the seat section is suspended with shock-absorbing Silentblocs.
