Asmara
by Bernard Govin
Asmara is a modular sofa program of concave and convex forms with stretch covers, which nestle sensually to the body and are characterized by a human-oriented aesthetic.
When Bernard Govin invents the model in 1966, he is 26 years old and sees above all the function it is supposed to fulfil: that of a seating and sunbathing area for groups. With the flexibility and adaptability of the piece of furniture and the idea of defining and modulating the space, he presents a magnificent work.
"I lived in the student milieu for a long time - you can have as many seats as you want, but in the end you end up on the floor," he told us back then. This new way of life, then proposed by Ligne Roset, has a radically nonconformist character - people no longer chat in rows on the sofa, but rearrange themselves and mix! Instead of standing at attention, at the end of the day you go for a long walk, rest and seek maximum relaxation.
