Daybed

by Pierre Paulin

In 2015, Ligne Roset re-edited a number of Pierre Paulin's most important designs for its 1953 Paris Arts Ménagers exhibition, including the Daybed sofa and the Le Secrétaire Mural wall secretary. At the time, the Daybed sofa went into series production under the name Model 118 by the French furniture manufacturer TV (Thevenin and Vecchione).

The reduced elegance of this seating furniture was revolutionary at the beginning of the 1950s and seems more up-to-date than ever today. The preference for natural materials such as wood, the desire for less consumption and a concentration on honest, essential products, the return to the aesthetics of the Fifties and Scandinavian design all speak for the Daybed sofa.

Daybed is functional, innovative and elegant. The small sofa with integrated storage can easily be extended into a large seating area for three to four people or into an additional bed by placing the two back cushions on the storage. The seat offers pleasant, soft comfort thanks to elastic straps, and the shelf combines two types of wood (beech and walnut). The reduced design plays with the contrast between light and dark wood and testifies to clear elegance.
