Decalage

by Vincent Tordjman

Every new design arises from a discrepancy with the existing. It shifts the focus from the familiar to the unexpected. Here it is the diagonal and not the right angle that determines the orientation of the table frame in the Décalage coffee table: The functional aspect remains untouched, but the form transforms and directs the eye in a new direction. The moiré of the fluted glass supports this perception of the infinite, in which everything seems to be inclined, although it is completely straight.

Upper glass plate fluted and tempered in fine, 8 mm thick strips. Top of lower glass top satin-finished with acid (silky feel), 6 mm thick.

Table frame in solid ash, stained black. The structure with different angles on the different sides gives the form determination and elegance.

The combination of the two layers, upper and lower glass top, creates a graphic motif seen from above, which emphasises the asymmetry.
