Lewa
by Sebastian Herkner
''An island of basalt!'' Nature and especially geology enthusiasts immediately recognise the source of inspiration of the Lewa couch and side table by Sebastian Herkner. It is the basalt organs that were created by the solidification and heat contraction of magma flows. The designer was fascinated by the uniformity of these prisms with hexagonal cross-sections, which can be topped by less uniform elements, some of which are arranged like sheaves. And it is precisely this sheaf, these different layers, that the Lewa coffee table symbolises, where each part has its own shape. The surface is thus divided into several separate areas on which different objects can be arranged harmoniously. One of the plates is made of ceramic and has a sufficiently high rim to fill it with water and discreetly arrange flowers in the manner of a small Japanese Zen basin.
