Mobidec

by Pierre Charpin

As a visual artist, Pierre Charpin works simultaneously on experimental projects for galleries, such as Kreo in Paris, and on industrial projects. In both cases, his design is recognisable for its simplicity and harmony: ''I try to convey fragile and sensitive messages that have nothing in common with immediate dissemination.'' As scenographer of the exhibition ''Mobi Boom, the Explosion of Design 1945-1975 in France'' at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Museum of Applied Arts) in Paris, Pierre Charpin designed the small Mobidec stools. They served as a seat for visitors to watch videos. The stools designed for the exhibition ''Mobi Boom'' are now edited by Ligne Roset for the collection.

Formally, the design of the Mobidec stool uses elements of equestrianism. Its shape is reminiscent of a slightly conical side horse or a saddle. The seat does not rest directly on the ground, but on

a metal frame that evokes stirrups. A textile holding loop, matching the cover of the stool, is attached to the ''stirrups'' and serves as a handle to easily adjust the stool.
